Around the shore

🌑 Brace yourselves, Saugeen Shores! A sky-high spectacle is headed our way on April 8th - a near-total solar eclipse! The moon will magically make over 95% of the sun disappear at 3:17pm. Not since 1925 have we had such stellar seats for this celestial feat. Use legit eclipse glasses to avoid eye woes as the sun's final slivers peek out from the moon's shadow. An out-of-this-world experience!

🏝️ At a council meeting, resident John Mann, a critic of the town's beach redevelopment partnership, questioned what plans exist for youth activities at the Port Elgin Main Beach area. He expressed nostalgia for former attractions like mini-golf that are now gone. Council members listed current youth recreation offerings but agreed to further explore gathering input from families and youth on desired amenities.

💸Auditors told council Saugeen Shores is in a good financial position, with $25 million in net assets and $46.2 million in reserves as of December 2022. While revenues and expenses exceeded budget, the town's high cash reserves raised questions about bank deposit limits. The mayor wants financial reports presented closer to year-end for better oversight.
