🎾 The Southampton Tennis Club, operating since 1956, requested $175,000 from the Town to resurface eight aging courts. The club, with 1,500 members, plans to raise $100,000 through fundraising. Council referred the request to 2025 budget talks, acknowledging difficult decisions ahead in prioritizing projects and finding revenue sources.
🏤 Bruce County council approved restoration work for the 1878 schoolhouse and log cabin at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre in Southampton. The schoolhouse requires additional funds of $106,000 to complete the $320,000 project. The museum's programming will continue during the restoration, with some limitations on outdoor space usage.
✝️ Southampton Legion members voted to restore the existing Cenotaph/Cairn/Cross memorial, rejecting a proposed redesign. The controversial decision followed debates over the monument's condition and how best to honor veterans. The Legion will work with a community sub-committee on enhancements, while public input will be sought through upcoming meetings.
