🎨 The Port Elgin BIA plans to bring vibrancy downtown with a permanent art installation and lighting in an alleyway, and a one-year trial moving the Farmers' Market to a larger municipal parking lot venue. Other events include street dances, road hockey games, and the traditional holiday tree lighting ceremony to promote local businesses.
⚓️ The Marine Heritage Society updated Saugeen Shores council on their upcoming events like the Marine Heritage Festival, Artisans & Tastes Market, and Chantry Island Tours. They discussed restoration projects for the Range Lights and the expensive repairs needed for the Chantry Island Imperial Tower lighthouse, hoping to partner with the federal government on funding.
🏠 Grey and Bruce counties welcome the federal budget's focus on housing initiatives aimed at creating nearly 3.9 million homes by 2031. The budget includes funding for affordable housing projects and measures to aid first-time homebuyers and renters. While details are still emerging, local officials express hope the programs can help address housing needs in their growing communities.
🚔A 42-year-old man from South Bruce faces charges related to brandishing a handgun outside a Kincardine business in March 2024. Police executed a search warrant in April, seizing imitation firearms and ammunition. Charges include assault with a weapon, using an imitation firearm while committing an offense, and possession of an imitation firearm for a dangerous purpose.
☢️ Bruce Power has taken all four Bruce B reactors offline for around 20 days to perform scheduled maintenance and inspections on the vacuum building safety system, a requirement about once per decade. The outage will reduce grid capacity by 15%. Work includes upgrading systems to increase medical isotope production like cobalt-60 used for sterilization and cancer treatment.

👩💼 Bruce County's Starter Company Plus program enabled success for seven entrepreneurs, providing $5,000 grants, training, and mentorship. Recipients included landscapers and marketers who credited the program for helping launch or expand their small businesses.
👵 Jean (Coates) Robertson, who turned 100 on April 20th, credits her long life to hard work on the family farm and eating meat and vegetables daily, celebrated by her 3 children, 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
👩🚒 Over 100 municipal and First Nations firefighters trained together at Sauble Speedway for the 31st Bruce County Fire School, achieving latest certifications and honing skills through courses like live fire training and auto extraction.
