🏠 In March, Grey-Bruce home sales declined by over 12% compared to March 2023, while new listings surged by nearly 30%, reaching a five-year high. Active residential listings increased by 32.8%, resulting in 5.8 months of inventory, up from the previous year. Despite the dip in sales, average home prices rose by 1.8% to $630,325. The MLS Home Price Index showed a 2% increase in overall composite benchmark price, with variations across different housing types.
👩⚕️ A partnership between Saugeen Shores, Kincardine, and Bruce Power aims to secure $150,000 annually for three years to keep ERs open and ensure every resident has a family doctor. The pilot project will offer stipends for locum physicians and funds to match "orphan" patients with primary care physicians. The municipalities are working together to address healthcare gaps and recruit physicians, with support from Bruce Power and collaboration with Kincardine.
🚨 A Saugeen Shores senior who wandered from care was swiftly found by police using the Vulnerable Person Registry (VPR), a free database for communication between vulnerable individuals, their supporters, and police. It stores emergency contacts, physical descriptions, routines, and special needs. The registry, used six times last year, helps police respond appropriately and is part of a holistic approach to community wellness.
☢️ The Municipality of South Bruce is seeking public input on a potential referendum question regarding hosting the Nuclear Waste Management Organization's Deep Geological Repository (DGR) for spent nuclear waste. The question is: "Are you in favour of the Municipality of South Bruce declaring South Bruce to be a willing host for the Nuclear Waste Management Organization’s proposed Deep Geological Repository (DGR)?" Comments will be presented at a council meeting on April 16, with a decision expected on April 23. The outcome will determine South Bruce's participation in the site selection process for the DGR.
